Pearl Poet Productions is proud to present the world premiere production of “Sir Gawain and the Green Knight: A Rock ‘N’ Roll Musical” at the Raven Theatre’s East Stage.  Originally penned by the unknown author dubbed as the “Pearl Poet” and retold now by native Chicagoan  John C. Ashton, “Sir Gawain and the Green Knight: A Rock ‘N’ Roll Musical” spins the medieval legend of Sir Gawain, a knight of King Arthur’s Round Table, and the heroic challenge he accepts on behalf of his king:  Gawain may deal his best axe-stroke to defeat the strange visitor known as the Green Knight; if he survives the fatal blow, the Green Knight may return his best stroke to defeat Sir Gawain one year later.  This play tells the tale of the year between the two fateful strokes, and the epic journey Gawain goes on to fulfill his mission.  Brought to anachronistic life with  music by Foreigner, Steve Winwood, Scorpions and more, “Sir Gawain…” explores the themes of honor, temptation, and sticking to your own moral code.

Under the direction of Nich Radcliffe (Blue Blood - Prologue Theater, Trice - Chicago Script Works), the production stars  Chris Causer (RENT - Artists Giving Back, Ayn Rand in Love - MCL, Thom Pain - Jealous Mistress Theatre Company) as Sir Gawain and  Jack Wright (Bullets over Broadway - NightBlue Productions, Addams Family, American Idiot - Prop Theatre)  as the mythic Green Knight. The cast features Noah Berman and Devi Reisenfeld as King Arthur and Queen Guinevere, as well as Gregory Dodds and Caroline Kidwell as Lord Bertilak and Lady Grey. The ensemble includes Brandon Campbell, Hana Christenson, North Homeward, Kamron Palmer, and Kellen Robinson.

The design team is as follows: Music Direction by TJ Anderson, Stage Management by Serena Dully, Scenic Design by Sam Gribben, Lighting Design by Cassandra Bierman, Sound Design by Michael Maxwell, Costume Design by Kate Setzer-Kamphausen, and Fight Design by Lana Whittington.  The play is being produced for Pearl Poet Productions by Josh Brewer and Dawn Kusinski.

Pearl Poet Productions is a Chicago-based theatrical company dedicated to making important works of medieval literature accessible to modern audiences.
